The North Carolina Airport Technical Assistance Program (NC AirTAP) is a joint effort of ITRE and the NCDOT Division of AviationOpens in new window, with support from the NC Airports AssociationOpens in new window, to provide educational offerings, information resources and related assistance to the state’s airport professionals.

NC AirTAP helps NC airports improve the safety, quality and efficiency of their operations and increase the use of new aviation materials and technology. The program also helps airport staff build a community network for exchanging best practices.

  • Coming in May 2024 —ALMP Course 11: Future Airport Opportunities. This next offering in our training series is a 1-day, in-person class discussing strategies for managing the technological paradigm shifts facing airports today and in the near future. Class location and date are to be announced. Learn more about ALMP courses on the Education and Training page.
  • The 2023-2024 schedule for Airport Wildlife Hazard Mitigation Training is now posted on the Education and Training page. Five regional classes across the state are planned. This is free training for NC airport operators, maintenance and fire crews, and other personnel.
  • Airport Board Member Training is a new series of online, self-paced training modules and is now open for registration. This free training is designed to help new and current airport board members understand how to support their airports better. Learn more on the Education and Training page.
  • New offerings of the Airport Fueling Operations Workshop and Airport Safety and Maintenance Workshop are being planned. Learn more about the training and register on the Education and Training page.
  • The 2023 report on North Carolina: The State of Aviation, produced by ITRE for the NCDOT Division of Aviation, is now available. The report highlights the significant economic impacts generated by the state’s public airports and the many assets that support a vibrant and competitive aviation and aerospace sector.   • Airport Marketing Toolkit. From writing press releases to using social media, check out the Technical Resources page for best practice communication and marketing strategies that can help airports of any size improve your marketing efforts.
