Started in 1992 as a cooperative venture between the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE), the FEP Program builds knowledge of engineering theory through practical applications. Students earn certificates as they achieve personal and career development goals.

Certificate Program

Earn certificates as you complete modules (bolded below). Choose your path through FEP courses with the option of working towards the capstone Highway Engineering Concepts (HEC) class. The length of time for certification depends on course load (typically one per semester), transferrable credits, and/or bypass exam credit for demonstrated mastery. Students may tailor their course sequence to their needs, or follow the standard course of study listed below:
