The Transportation Planning Council (TPC) is focused on developing fellowship opportunities, transportation planning-related training opportunities, policy comment opportunities, and networking opportunities for NCSITE members and members of the North Carolina transportation community. Also, we are looking for ways to provide mentor opportunities to students as well as chances for students to present their research. Some of major initiatives include:

  • Coordinate with the other three NCSITE Councils.
  • Schedule and conduct location meetings.
  • Schedule and conduct the Mid-year Meeting and technical sessions.
  • Schedule and conduct the Annual Meeting and technical sessions.

2007 Goals:

The Transportation Planning Council (TPC) Chair holds monthly meetings with an organizational team to plan events throughout the year. The TPC promotes NCSITE in the planning community through workshops, meetings, luncheons and users groups. The goals for the year include the following:

  • Establish faculty contact persons for UNCCH and Appalachian State to notify students of NCSITE events
  • Support the student-hosted meeting on March 28th – leadership through Tony Tagliaferri
  • Sponsor 1 Triangle Area Luncheon
  • Sponsor 1 Charlotte Area Luncheon – leadership through Radha Swayampakala
  • Sponsor 1 Triad Area Luncheon
  • Continue support of the Statewide Model Users Group and present at student-hosted meeting and/or student chapter meeting(s) – 2 group meetings planned around mid-year and annual meeting dates – leadership through Rhett Fussel and Elizabeth Harper
  • Support Environmental/NEPA outreach – Environmental/NEPA Task Force started and 2 Lunch and Learn events planned – leadership through David Griffin and Missy Dickens
  • Continue financial support of the Future Cities Competition, provide mentors to 2 teams and judge the awards
  • Each member will attempt to recruit at least 1 new member and competition for largest percent increase in Council membership is proposed
  • Continue to host Happy Hour social events following monthly organizational meetings
  • Develop the technical agenda for the mid-year meeting and assist in hosting the meeting
  • Develop the Planning Track of the Annual Meeting and provide support for the meeting
