Objective

The U.S. Department of Transportation Center for Climate Change and Environmental Forecasting (CCC) has formed a partnership with the NCSU Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), the Center for Transportation Research in the Coastal Environment (CTRCE) (U.S.), and the Ports and Waterways Center (PWC), TTI-TAMU, to host a pair of workshops on the impacts of global climate change on hydraulics and hydrology and transportation, including a possible change in the rate of sea-level rise. All transportation modes will be included in the identification of areas to be addressed.

The purpose of this initiative is to provide planning and engineering professionals with the information they need to make informed decisions on how to respond to possible changes resulting from climate change. The guidance will be developed through the use of small grants to a team of established experts in specific, narrowly defined areas. The problem statements will be developed at a workshop of invited participants, and the draft results will be presented to the same participants at a second workshop.

The final results will be presented at a nationally televised videoconference as well as submitted for publication.
