Linda has a bachelor's degree in computer science and worked at IBM as a programmer for 15 years prior to taking some time off to stay at home with her children.
Bonnie Sluder is a project leader for the statewide computerized school bus routing project called TIMS (Transportation Information management Systems). She provides technical support and training for Data Managers in school systems located in the eastern part of North Carolina. Bonnie began working with ITRE in June 2005.
Mickey Michael is the program manager for the TIMS program. Mickey began working for ITRE in 1988. He has a bachelor's degree in engineering and a post-graduate certification in computer programming from North Carolina State University.
Mike Miller is a program manager for the Operations Research and Education Lab (OR/Ed. Lab). Mike has a background in mathematics and has many years of teaching experience. As a member of the OR/Ed. Lab, Mike is responsible for leading projects for school districts throughout North Carolina. Each Lab project presents unique challenges that often require sophisticated mathematical techniques from diverse fields like operations research and statistics. Mike also relies on his experience as a communicator to present and explain complex results to school board members and administration.
Marc Perez is a project leader for the Statewide computerized school bus routing project called TIMS (Transportation Information Management System). He provides technical support, TIMS system integration and training for Data Managers in school systems located in the eastern part of North Carolina. Marc has a bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in computer science from Wingate College. He began working with ITRE in December 2000.
Laureano Rangel is a research associate for the Operations Research and Education Laboratory (OR/Ed. Lab). With a background in mathematics and statistics, Laureano is involved in every facet of an OR/Ed. Lab project; from residential development projections to optimization scenarios for North Carolina school systems. In addition to Lab school-related projects, Laureano has also provided statistical expertise to other ITRE groups in applications that involve the analysis of spatial data.
Jeff Tsai is the Director of the Pupil Transportation Group where he conducts research and manages the TIMS program and the Operations Research/Education Laboratory (OR/Ed. Lab). Jeff is the chair for the Transportation Research Board's School Transportation Subcommittee and volunteer for the Olive Chapel Elementary school's Walking School Bus program. In 2006, he was the recipient for the Research and Graduated Studies unit's University Award for Excellence.
After earning a masters degree in Geophysics from North Carolina State University in 1987, Jeff joined ITRE as a project leader implementing statewide GIS based computer-assisted school bus routing/scheduling system for the state of North Carolina. Jeff was named Program Director for the Pupil Transportation Group in 1993 and has been instrumental in applying transportation engineering principles and technology to the operation and management of school transportation in order to provide for safe and efficient model of school travel.
In addition to school transportation, Jeff also manages the OR/Ed. Lab which is a mathematical laboratory for assisting school districts with student demographic forecasting, capacity analysis, school sitting, and school attendance through the use of GIS, operations research algorithms and mathematics modeling. OR/Ed. Lab is the only place in the nation where school planning solutions are produced through the use of optimization algorithms.
