David King
David King is the Deputy Secretary for Transit for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and is responsible for the department's five multimodal divisions: Aviation Division, Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Division, Ferry Division, Public Transportation Division and the Rail Division. Mr. King received his BA degree in Economics at Davidson College and his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
In l973, he joined the NCDOT and has held a variety of positions, including Deputy Secretary for Transit and Director of the Public Transportation and Rail Division. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the State Employees Credit Union, the Reconnecting America Foundation, and the High Speed Ground Transportation Association.
He currently chairs the States for Passenger Rail Coalition, a 25-state organization that is working for improved rail passenger service. He also chairs NCDOT's Executive Committee for Highway Safety. Mr. King has provided staff support to the Governor's International Travel Task Force, and the Governor's Rail Council and Rail Passenger Task Force.
Other involvement in the past includes chairing the City of Raleigh Greenway Commission; and Raleigh's Parks, Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board; the Transportation Research Board Strategic Transportation Research Study for Transit; the UMTA Rural Technical Assistance Program Advisory Board; the Institute for Transportation Engineers; the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Public Transportation Association; North Carolina Operation Lifesaver Board of Directors
