Support Services for the FHWA Domestic Scan Tour on Successful Wetland Mitigation Programs
Project Overview
The purpose of the 2005 FHWA Domestic Scan of Successful Wetland Mitigation
Programs was to survey the wetland mitigation, particularly banking,
initiatives of eight states to document success stories and lessons
learned. The inter-agency scan tour team comprised representatives
from the Federal Highway Administration,
Environmental Protection Agency,
US Fish and Wildlife Service, and
US Army Corps of Engineers.
The states selected for the site visits were Texas, North Carolina,
Alabama, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Minnesota. FHWA
and other agency members of the scan team were interested in learning
how the states have utilized banking and other compensatory mitigation
measures since funding for such approaches became available through
the Transportation Equity Act of the 21st Century. The team was also
interested in documenting innovative stewardship initiatives resulting
from enhanced inter-agency collaborations. The results of the scan
tour are currently being documented in a final report prepared by
the Center for Transportation and the Environment. CTE is also assisting
with the development and implementation of a technology transfer plan,
of which this Web site is a component, to help share the results of
the scan tour with other state agencies and interested stakeholders.
