Old Crow Wetland Bank (Huntingdon County)

PennDOT purchased this 8.69-acre site (1.42 acres debited) in the Juniata River watershed for $1 from the PA correctional facility. PennDOT worked closely with the FWS and NRCS on the site design. The site was constructed and is currently maintained by PennDOT Division 9 county maintenance forces. Prison labor was used to construct the shelter. Strong community involvement with the site has eliminated concerns with vandalism and littering, and the site has become a popular educational opportunity for high school students and youth groups interested in wetlands ecology.
