CTE Graduate Research Fellowship Program
The CTE Graduate Research Fellowship Program is open to graduate students
within the University of North Carolina system schools and Duke University. The program provides
annual research stipends (usually in the amount of $15,000/year) to masters and doctoral students
whose research and career interests relate to surface transportation and the environment. The
duration of each fellowship award is typically one year, with the possibility of a
continuation for a second year.
CTE Graduate Fellows are required to use their financial award to pursue a research program that
includes a component on identifying and/or mitigating the impacts of surface transportation on the
natural and/or human environment. This requirement may be satisfied either by incorporating the research results into
a thesis or dissertation, or by undertaking research in this area as part of an internship with
an appropriate transportation/environmental agency or organization. Students are responsible for
organizing their own research and/or internship program.
