Advanced Roads Scholar Program
The Advanced Roads Scholar curriculum was developed at the request of our Roads Scholar graduates. Those motivated enough to complete the Roads Scholar Program will want to continue sharpening their skills and expanding their knowledge. The Advanced Roads Scholar Program consists of 13 different one- or two-day training sessions, regularly offered through LTAP each year. To become an Advanced Roads Scholar, one must:
- already be a Roads Scholar
- complete eight of the 11 following training sessions
- Advanced Work Zone Safety
- Confined Space Entry and Lockout/Tagout
- Erosion Control
- Flagging Instructor Training
- Guardrail Design, Installation and Maintenance
- Management and Supervisory Skills for Experienced Supervisors
- OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training
- Roadside Landscaping in North Carolina
- Risk Management and Tort Liability
- Stormwater Hydrology
- Traffic Calming
- Trenching "Competent Person"
- Writing Skills for Transportation Professionals
- write a minimum of one page on how the Advanced Roads Scholar Program has helped you in your job or your community.
Advanced Roads Scholar Completion
Upon successful completion of the program participants will receive the following:
- Advanced Roads Scholar certificate of training
- Advanced Roads Scholar award
- Recognition at the NCAPWA Streets Division Annual Meeting
- A biography and photo in the NC LTAP Web site and in NC LTAP's Transportation Tracks newsletter
- Letter of commendation, copied to participants supervisor and mayor
- Press release announcing your achievement to participants local newspaper
